Well, the Crimean citizens elected to join Russia by around 90%. Of course, there were only 2 choices on the ballot.
1. Join Russia
2. Join Ukraine.
There was not a choice to stay a semi-autonomous part of the Ukriane, which is probably what most would have preferred.

The US and "the west" have already condemned the vote as fraudulent and illegal...wonder what "we" would have said if the vote went the other way...seems we only like the results if the election goes in favor of our interests.
