Ruger 10/22 Thread

Any new things to talk about a 10/22?

I'm gonna be working on my gunstock tomorrow and possibly polishing the barrel band if I can get the energy to do it. I will definitely post pictures if y'all are interested!

I've still got a spare blued barrel and band I have no idea what I am going to do with, possibly removing the sight and doing something wild with it, I've never ported anything but I have the drill press and the skill to do it I just need to read up on how it's done, probably a precision Jig and allot of time.

Also has anyone removed the Metal Buttstock Plate and polished it? Also what's behind the darned thing? Has anyone drilled it out to put in like extra ammo or a small survival kit? Or maybe lead weights for competition shooting?

I was thinking about making the Buttstock plate match the stainless of my receiver and barrel. I really think that would make it stand out and accent the gun quite nicely!
Definitely post pics when done. I don't think I've ever seen a steel buttplate on a 10/22. Both of mine are plastic; one rifle was manufactured in 1975, the other in 1998.

Nos, check out that site i told you about. Hell, look at this. Cheap!

thanks a lot! i am going to order a few buckets now. the markup cant be that much can it? how can one shop sell for that price while the others are 5 times the price.... hell im all over it

I'd look for reviews to make sure that ammo works well in 10/22 mags before I bought 2800 rounds or more. And it might just work fine in OE mags, or Steel Lips mags, but not the Hot Lips mags. I'd just check it out first. I noticed it only had a 2 or 3 star rating. Someone's not liking it for some reason.

That is .04 per round, This is .03 per round. Spend over $50 at PSA and I think you get FREE shipping too. And this has 12 reviews. Only complaint seems to be it's dirty and waxy. So clean your gun after shooting it. DUHH !!! You should anyway. But the 10/22 guys and Ruger SR22 guys are saying it works great.

I've heard good too about them. I'm not saying they were bad, or even cheaper is not the issue. To get the ammo I KNOW for a fact will work in a 10/22 and work well, I'd even pay the .01 more per round. Just saying before anyone gets stuck with over 3000 rounds of ammo, make sure you can use it. The Blazer happens to be a bit less with good reviews, and for those who don't want to buy the 1400 qty, they can still get the 525 round qty for the same or actually a little less per round.

Many times, the large qty is NOT the good deal. Like those ACP Plastic Ammo Can of Blazer Brass.9mm, .40S&W and .45ACP, if you watch, you can usually get the 50rd boxes and it end up being a bit less cost. The other advantage to that is, if you're a guy like me who how had several different calibers, I can buy 100 rds of 9mm, 150 rounds of .40 and 50 rounds of .357Mag, isntead of having to buy 250+ of each.

since the cost is so cheap with the .22 im not worried about pennies, unless its a lot of them, i just want it to fire right.

And I was wildly mistaken and you are Correct BUT... In my defense I have only had the wood stock for a few months since I picked it up on eBay for ~$50 along with a spare blued barrel and band shipped to my door in good condition!

Down the rabbit hole I go, the one place we will all go with the 10/22 into DIY Gunsmithing. It is in our blood with these little customizable monsters.

Now if I cast a mold and produce stainless steel Butt plates... Hmmm... Woodstock guys chime in on this idea!.

The good thing about .22 ammo is that if it doesn't work in your 10/22, it might work in one of your other .22s. :D
The hard part is remembering which ammo works in which rifle or pistol. Fortunately, everything works in a couple of my guns, and some ammo works in all of them.

the CZ should feed anything, being a bolt action. I have had good luck with federal champion and winchester bulk ammo in my 10/22s, the fed champion being the best of bulk ammo for my use (works well in everything). Remington bulk has not been so good for me. It does not load or extract well from my revolvers.

For a little better quality stuff, I like CCI mini mag in my 10/22. CCI standard velocity is my favorite for my .22 bolt gun (a Ruger 77/22). Not terribly expensive, but quite accurate about 1" @ 100 yds, occasionally better.

so my 10/22 didnt like the federal bulk ammo. it jammed almost every time i fire a shot. it wasnt ejecting properly and the casing would get stuck in the chamber

You're not alone brah !!! Not sure if it was this thread or not, but I've asked that question myself if anyone else had that problem. Someone responded with Not at all. My Federal was old, and you can tell the tips are not quite rounded off. Almost more of an A or Cone shape and I think that's why they didn't feed well. When someone said NO, I figured theire's was newer than mine and Federal may have gotten real and corrected the ammo.

Where you using the OE rotary mag or an aftermarket banana mag?

No, just the aftermarket over 10 cap or BX-25 mags will be banned. They weren't banned last time in the 94 Ban.

Just that if you got stopped and had a Post Ban 10/22 and had a Pre Ban 10/22 Hi Cap Mag with you or caught with it in the gun, then you might have a problem.

It wasn't illegal to use a pre-ban full capacity magazine with a post-ban rifle or pistol. At least federally. State laws may vary.

OK only uses Federal Law for Firearms. It was a county Sheriffs son who had me convinced it was illegal. It didn't sound right to me either at the time.
