Marlin 25N Makeover

I posted last week about a neglected 25N that I was able to acquire.

It was rusty, dusty and in need of some TLC.

Previous owner varnished right over the labels on the forend.

Small nick in the forend.

Worn stock with runs in the varnish.

Sanded clean and smooth.

Refinished in Red Mahogany and sealed with clear satin spar urethane.
Rust on barrel removed with 000 steel wool.

I hope to range test it later this week before buying mags and mounting a scope.

Glad you decided to make a project out of it. Looking forward to the end result.

It'd make a great silencer host if you have enough barrel diameter to thread it 1/2-28.

Cleaning up nicely. The stock may not have been varnished after manufacturer. The older Marlin 22s have a pretty shiny finish from the factory.

My first rifle was a Marlin Model 25 that my father bought me for Xmas when I was 13. It was a tack-driver, it bagged many rabbits back in my teens and twenties.
I haven't fired it in years since it has a worn out bolt and will sometimes discharge as soon as the bolt is closed. I haven't been able to track down a new bolt.
Apparently, the 25N is the replacement for the 25, which solved the issues with the bolt design

Last night I gave it a few coats of Outers Gun Blue and mounted an old 4X scope on it.
