Cheaper than Dirt stops selling guns

Precisely why I have always opposed buying guns or ammo at big box stores. CTD, Dicks, Walmart, etc, are not going to fight for the 2nd Amendment. Use the opportunity to support the guy who cares enough about it to open up a store - you can bet he probably wasn't planning to get rich. I'd pay...

    the gun for the job

Lots of things to shoot - paper, cans, plastic bottles, spinner targets, steel targets, milk jugs full of water. Can be a tremendous amount of fun.

    What targets do you use?

Thugly is exactly the type of thing I was asking about. Was thinking about some targets from www.shootsteel.com Or maybe some of the body shot targets from here: http://www.do-alltraps.com/targeting.html

    What targets do you use?

Really what I'd like is some good steel. I've bought a couple now that couldnt take the rounds they claimed they could. My foam silhouette works well and has taken about 1000 rounds so far. Worth the money to not have to mess with cardboard, and does fine in rain, wind, etc. I just stick...

Terminal Ballistics as Viewed in a Morgue

Exactly. A better trained shooter is ALWAYS the best option. But a novice shooter picking up a short barreled Redhawk in .454 Casull is going to lead to fundamental errors. It's not the gun's fault. I was responding to the statement that there no inherent difference in accuracy between...

    What targets do you use?

I live in a rural area and have several places in my land to shoot. I usually set up some paper shoot-n-c targets stuck to cardboard on a folding target stand. Or I use a silhouette that is augmented with shoot n c stickers over the heart and center head. The silhouette is from Trigger Happy...

Terminal Ballistics as Viewed in a Morgue

Sort of. I am not an advocate of mouse guns for self defense. However, fundamental errors - such as flinching, anticipating recoil, jerking the trigger, and milking - are far more likely from large caliber weapons than small calibers.

    Have an AFTER action plan

Some good info there. Since the title is AFTER action - I would especially adhere to the advice given to me by several active and retired officers. Basically, pay attention to the Miranda rights. Tell them who you are, comply with instructions, etc. Answer questions with an attorney present.

    Military Guns

Sure, ask the Germans about charging a position upon hearing the sound of an M1 clip hitting the ground. US Special Ops still use M14's - until very recently as as a primary weapon.

    the gun for the job

Shot placement. I've taken deer with a wide range of calibers. Shot placement is key. Started using a rifled 12 gauge this year, and love it. But I still have to carefully place the shot. Keep the round in the chest cavity - often that means clipping a front shoulder.

    Stopping Power

Training. The best accessory you can get for any weapon is a better trained shooter (you) pulling the trigger.
