Not mine - his wife is a murderous terrorist who bragged about "necklacing" people who opposed them, putting a tire filled with gasoline around their necks and lighting it on fire.

Not sure if I would call him one of my heros. He was a freedom fighter, and fighting for rights is not always pretty.

But IMO flying the flag at half staff should be reserved for American occasions. Let Africa honor him with their flag at half staff.
12/7/13 the flag will be at half staff in remembrance of Pearl Harbor. But it looks like that may be overshadowed by Mandella.

You have that right.
We will all remember Pearl Harbor regardless of what oblamba does.
He and his followers will try to divert the ocassion, but, us "True" Americans will not forget.
Seems We are getting fewer as time goes on though.

Well, since the article was written by a Christian missionary, I have no doubt that the author is looking at it from a greatly different perspective form myself.
Abortion = FREEDOM of choice
Pornography = FREEDOM of press
Homosexuality = FREEDOM of choice
Prostitution = FREEDOM of choice
To paraphrase Voltaire, "I may not agree with your choices, but I will defend your right to make them.
I am not trying to change anyone's mind on Nelson Mandela. I just want to point out that there are many different points of view to look at. I do not agree that the American flag should be lowered for him.
Was Mr. Mandela a perfect man? No, but no one is perfect
It's easy for some to tear down his accomplishments from the comfort of a soft chair. It's easy to judge a man's actions when you have a full belly and a warm home. He did much to tear down an oppressive regime and for that he earns my respect. Maybe not my admiration, but my respect.
The way a man discards his shackles is of little importance, as long as his hands are now free.
Sinmply ask the question, would you be content to live under apartheid?
Or would you do anything necessary to be free?

You can justify a lot of actions with this motto. If you commit terrorist acts using this as your mantra, you will quickly become what you despise, and worse. For certain you will become something I will despise and actively oppose.

Agreed. The line between freedom fighter and terrorist is a thin and blurry one. We must remember that "terrorism" is a tactic, not a cause.
Would the British not have labeled the Boston Tea Party as an act of terrorism? Probably.
Or the militias of Concord a band of radical insurgents? In fact they did.
Terrorist/Insurgent is a label you put on your enemies.
Freedom fighter/Patriot is a label you give to your allies.
Obviously, something like blowing up a school full of children is a reprehensible act and can never sanely be defended.
But an act such as bombing a bus full of soldiers that is occupying your country is quite a different story.
Trying to understand a persons motives is not to be confused with defending their actions.
A biting dog may be acting out of fear and not anger, but that does not prevent me from kicking him away with a solid boot. And if you ask witnesses who the aggressor was, you will most likely get different answers.

But Thamsanqa Jantjie never went to trial for the 2003 killings when other suspects did in 2006 because authorities determined he was not mentally fit to stand trial, said the four. They insisted on speaking anonymously because of the sensitivity of the fake signing fiasco, which has deeply embarrassed South Africa's government and prompted a high-level investigation into how it happened.
Their account of the killings matched a description of the crime and the outcome for Jantjie that he himself described in an interview published on Sunday by the Sunday Times newspaper of Johannesburg.
"It was a community thing, what you call mob justice, and I was also there," Jantjie told the newspaper.
Yeah a real upstanding citizen for his community and for the world to see.
