Last week while visiting family in Mesa, Arizona I saw a ad in the paper about a upcoming local air show put on by the Commemorative Air Force, which has a wing/museum there too. I have always wanted to do this..so my family as an early birthday present bought me a ticket on a ride on the Sentimental Journey, a B-17G model, complete with dummy bombs and machine guns.
The flight lasted about forty-five minutes from take-off to landing. Another passenger was from England and was thrilled to be onboard too. Just something about those four prop engines roaring and grabbing those waist fifty-caliber machines guns, gave you some sort of inside what is was like back in 1943 flying over Germany on a bombing mission. My hats off to those men who flew them. Heard that Spielberg/Hanks next movie will be about the 8th Air Force...:waytogo:
Also at the airishow was "Fifi" the only flying B-29 in the world, also available for rides a B-25, C-45, P-51, Navy SNU and a PT-17. Weather was perfect and if you get a chance go for it..:rockit:.
