Love the Review on Hornady .40 S&W Hornady TAP FPD 155 Grain JHP

The Hornady Critical Defense and Critical Duty seem to be very good defensive rounds. I carry them in all my defensive weapons.

Prepping for new assault weapons ban.

That's precisely why governments make firearm restrictions. They sell it with public safety, and it also serves as a first step, with broader restrictions to follow. Most people don't realize it, but the same applies among governments and concern over Nuclear, biological, and chemical warfare...

    Hornady SST slug performance

It's a good question - if I can do the job for less money then why not. The Winchester would have done as well, and may have had even more terminal ballistic results - it's 1oz, or about 450gr, which is about 50% heavier than the Hornady. In my tests, the Hornady were dead bullseye and...

    Hand/Eye dominance

This was tested recently on a show I saw either on Outdoor channel or Sportsmans channel. A guy engaged targets with a pistol in each hand, then ran the same course with one pistol. The 1 gun technique resulted in much greater accuracy and significantly reduced time. I put Crimson Trace grips...

What is your self defense load?

I was carrying a couple rounds of Critical Defense, followed by PDX1. But I saw the tests from the Critical Duty, which was very impressive. So I changed it. Now Critical Duty follows the Critical Defense. Then a couple hydrashoks before the last couple are PDX1. If I'm still shooting by...

    Hand/Eye dominance

I agree with using the hand that matches your dominant eye, and keep both eyes open. It takes a little practice, but then when you get it down, it's the only way you'll shoot. I've trained several people who were cross dominant to shoot that way, and they've all done very well. Personally, I...

    Serves The Right - Layoffs

I live in an area dependent upon coal. The day after the election, coal companies laid off employees with no plans for callbacks. In the last 3 years since he's been in office, no new coal permits have been issued. The local economy here will be decimated. I mean decimated. And this crap...

    Any of y'all shoot competitively?

I shot at a local competition - camp perry pistol using my MKII govt target model, a military rifle class with an M1A, and a sporting rifle (any bolt action), using a Rem 700 PSS. It was fun, but I haven't been interested much in shooting for times.

I absolutely love my Para P12. Not a fan of LDA, but I don't care much for double action in general. The P12 fits my large hands very well.

    Home Defense

I hope you've patterned your shotgun at those distances. Most shotguns do NOT spread much yet at less than 10 yards. You can not spray and pray. It takes time for that shot to spread; usually more time than is available inside a home. At those distances, it must be fired as a single projectile...

What would be a good deer hunting rifle?

I agree that selection has to depend on what you can shoot well and what distance you'll be hunting. And shot placement can not be overstated. It's crucial. The common deer calibers around here are .270, 30-06, .30-30, and 7mm

What would be a good deer hunting rifle?

Up close I really like my Ruger Super Redhawk .44 Mag. This year I picked up a Browning Silver, 12ga 22" rifled barrel. Very pleased with the performance, and it's great out to about 200 yards easily. I posted up a thread about the Hornady SST slugs through it.

M1A is excellent choice. As soon as I pay for a couple other things, I'm getting a SCAR 17, with trijicon ACOG in 7.62 reticle + RMR.
