A pregnant 14-year-old U.S. girl was recovering from non-life-threatening wounds after she was shot by police in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas near the U.S. border over the weekend, state prosecutors said. U.S. officials were joining the investigation in the city of Reynosa, the Tamaulipas attorney general's office said.
The girl, who is four months' pregnant, was shot Sunday night during a high-speed chase near the border crossing into Pharr, Texas, Attorney General Ismael Quintanilla Acosta said in a statement Tuesday. Neither she nor the fetus are in danger, authorities said.
Police gave chase after they saw the driver of the truck leave a convenience store with an unspecified weapon, according to the attorney general's office. They opened fire on the truck's tires when it failed to stop, and the girl, who was in the passenger seat, was struck once in the stomach by a bullet, the statement said.
Quintanilla Acosta said the officers were being questioned. Representatives of the U.S. consulate in Matamoros visited the hospital where the girl, officially identified only as "Indira N" because she is a juvenile, was being treated and were assisting in the investigation.
Once again I will never sent foot in that country...:uhoh2:
